YouTube vertical live streams gets new features and we cover them in this conversation from the Social Cafe Twitter Space for December 2024. We shared the reasons we love live streaming and all the benefits like real time interaction that only happens during the shared experience with viewers.

It is a lively discussion between myself Ileane Smith and Deborah Anderson from https://youtube.com/@socialwebcafe We are both well versed on the topic of live streaming and content creation.

Many platforms, including YouTube, TikTok and Instagram, are adopting vertical live streaming, which is becoming a trend. This format is user-friendly and encourages more spontaneous, casual streaming. We discuss the importance of selecting the right streaming software depending on the desired quality and features. Riverside and Streamyard are two popular options.

What's New on YouTube Vertical Live Streams:
• When you go live vertically, your stream can show up in the Shorts feed, making it accessible to a wider audience. This feature is a big win, as it allows creators to attract viewers who may have never encountered their content otherwise.

• YouTube is in the process of rolling out a gifting feature called "jewels," which allows viewers to send monetary gifts during vertical live streams. This feature is somewhat reminiscent of similar options available on platforms like Twitch.

• To enhance engagement, YouTube allows creators to enable subscriber-only chats. This feature can be particularly useful when welcoming new viewers from the Shorts feed who may want to comment and interact.

• As a response to the need for context, YouTube is introducing generative AI features that provide viewers with chat summaries. This is especially beneficial for new viewers joining midway who want to catch up on what they’ve missed.

Creative ideas for holiday-themed live streams include holiday recipes, virtual parties, showcasing DIY crafts, charity drives, and handling technical issues.
